New Minister at Lymington United Reformed Church

On Sunday 20th November 2011, on a fine sunny afternoon, the United Reformed Church in the centre of Lymington High Street was full to capacity with worshippers and supporters as Revd Chris Vivian was inducted as our new Minister. Revd Clare Downing, the Moderator of Wessex Synod, presided over the service, Revd Eddie Boon from Hythe Cornerstone United Reformed Church, who had been our Interim Moderator while we were seeking a new Minister, presented Chris to the congregation, and she was welcomed by the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Jacqui England, the Church Secretary, Sandra Jackson and by younger members of the congregation. Revd Dr John Hall, a retired URC minister and Director of the Romans One Eleven Trust with whom Chris has visited Uganda on four occasions, preached the sermon. Hymns were sung with enthusiasm and it was indeed a truly joyous occasion.Chris comes to us from the Isle of Wight where she was working as a Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator in a Middle School that has now closed. Before that she had ministered in central London, Hertfordshire and Lancashire, although she is originally from Cheshire. Both Chris and the church feel that this combination of previous experiences fits her well to work with the church as it seeks to develop its Open Door Vision and its ministry in the heart of Lymington.

Our Open Door Cafe helps with a cuppa!

The United Reformed Church in Lymington gave an unexpected boost to local charities with donations of up to £150.00 to First Opportunities, All Seasons Children Centre, The Fortune Riding Centre and The Stroke Club Lymington (LVCG). The money was raised in the Open Door Cafe currently open Monday to Friday 10am to 12noon. Every Tuesday half of the proceeds from selling TRAIDCRAFT tea, coffee and cakes goes to those groups and charities in the local area who support the community with the remainder supporting the Good News Children’s Home in Mombasa. So come and enjoy a Tuesday cuppa and help local groups!

Robert Jackson……….”The Stroke Club is delighted to receive this cheque from the Open Door Cafe at the URC and it will enable us to continue to provide weekly respite for carers of stroke victims in Lymington & District.”

Geoff Pitts…………First Opportunities would like to thank all those involved with the Open Door Cafe for their kindness. I can assure you that this donation will be wisely and carefully spent to the benefit of the children.”
